For the first time ever the FIFA World Cup came to Canada in 2026! Toronto hosted six games at the tournament which ran from June 11th to July 19th.
In the summer of 2026, Toronto was home to world-class soccer matches, fan festivals and cultural celebrations as Canada co-hosted the global tournament along with Vancouver as well as cities in both Mexico and the United States.
The FIFA World Cup is the world’s largest and most prestigious soccer tournament bringing together top national teams from around the globe every four years.

Toronto FIFA World Cup Soccer
The 2026 FIFA World Cup was the biggest-ever edition of the most popular global soccer tournament. A total of 104 matches were scheduled for the expanded tournament. 48 teams competed in 16 cities spread across Canada, Mexico and the United States. Toronto was one of those cities. It hosted six games at BMO Field. The United States hosted the majority of the games while Canada and Mexico hosted 13 matches each. In Canada, games took place in both Toronto and Vancouver with Toronto hosting six matches and Vancouver hosting seven.
Argentina was the reigning champion, having won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. 2026 marked the third time that Canada had appeared at the World Cup, and the first time that they played at consecutive tournaments. Canada was in Group B for the tournament, along with Bosnia & Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.
Along with the games happening in the city, Toronto had an official FIFA Fan Festival that ran throughout the entire tournament. The Toronto Fan Festival was at Fort York & The Bentway at 250 Fort York Boulevard. At the festival there were live music performances, food vendors and other entertainment. There were also, of course, broadcasts of the World Cup games themselves. On the other side of the country, there was also the FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE in Vancouver.
World Cup in Toronto Schedule
The 2026 FIFA World Cup games in Toronto included five in the group stage round on June 12th, 17th, 20th, 23rd and 26th, and one knockout round game on July 2nd. The full schedule was as follows.
- Friday, June 12th – Canada vs Bosnia and Herzegovina at 3:00 pm
- Wednesday, June 17th – Ghana vs Panama at 7:00 pm
- Saturday, June 20th – Germany vs Ivory Coast at 4:00 pm
- Tuesday, June 23rd – Croatia vs Panama at 7:00 pm
- Friday, June 26th – Iraq vs Senegal at 3:00 pm
- Thursday, July 2nd – Runner-up Group K vs Runner-up Group L at 7:00 pm
The above games spanned the group stage and knockout rounds which gave fans multiple chances to experience the excitement of the tournament in the city.

Other FIFA Events
The FIFA Fan Festival was the biggest official World Cup event happening in Toronto. There were, however, other events that took place across the city over the 39 days of the tournament.
The CF Toronto Eaton Centre hosted free viewing parties and other events each day of the tournament beginning at 10:00 am. There was also the Bloor-Yorkville Soccer Fest on various days in June, the Rosedale Main Street Soccer Fest on June 20th, and watch parties for select games at Yonge and Eglinton as well as Evergreen Brick Works.
